Liberals Must Dump Bill Maher
In Every Way, One Man Exemplifies the Worst of Liberalism
I know a lot of liberals. On the surface, they’re very accepting people, I think we can generally agree. A lot of people are, and while that’s great, it’s a little bit harder to be radically accepting when you’re being challenged, especially if there might actually be something you’re doing wrong.
Sounds like something Bill Maher might say, doesn’t it? Except in the case of Bill Maher, he’d probably be talking about liberals taking criticism from people like him, who tend to straddle progressivism and conservatism in a zone of comedy where nobody who’s really invested in any particular struggle will ever agree with Maher on everything. The advantage of this is that it allows Maher to snark about any given political group and he’s guaranteed a laugh from somebody. It might be good for a laugh — unless you’re dipping into the same stale jokes about offensive Halloween costumes because your predominantly white audience like to feel comfortable — but it’s not exactly nuanced critique, is it? Well, I’ve got a nuanced critique for you.
